“Weingut Thörle presented stunning, pristine 2023 whites, while the 2022 Pinot Noirs are probably the best ever made at the estate, a collection of elegance and finesse.” — Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous
Anne Krebiehl MW, who covers the German-speaking wine world for Antonio Galloni's Vinous, praised Weingut Thörle in her October 2024 review of the Rheinhessen and Rheingau, stating "Thörle presented stunning, pristine 2023 whites, while the 2022 Pinot Noirs are probably the best ever made at the estate, a collection of elegance and finesse." The ratings are through the roof, with the single-vineyard Rieslings and Spätburgunders scoring in the 95-96 range. Even the Ortswein (village-level) Saulheim Kalkstein '22 Spätburgunder and '23 Riesling rate highly with 94 and 93 point scores, respectively. The exceptionally high ratings are no surprise to those who know the Thörle wines, which seem to become more refined year after year despite an ongoing string of warm vintages in Germany. As Krebiehl puts it, "Two thousand twenty-two provides a new paradigm for German Pinot Noir. The wines from this hot and dry year do not taste hot at all," adding, "Elegance is now a byword and readers looking for alternatives to Burgundy will find a most contemporary interpretation of an old-world style in Germany."
