Johannes Nehrer, his father Hans, and his mother Eva run the Nehrer winery. Together, they cultivate around 20 hectares organically around St. Georgen, a district of Eisenstadt on the southeast slopes of the Leithaberg. They love our old vines, which grow in limestone and slate-rich soils, and the nature that surrounds their sites. Blaufränkisch and Chardonnay are exceptional standouts. However, one should not overlook their Zweigelt unique Cuvée Red.
With a wealth of experience from Klosterneuburg and international internships, Johannes has been at the helm of the winery since 2017. Every bottle shows his unwavering commitment to organic viticulture and his focus on making it natural and future-proof. The vineyards, under his stewardship, are organically managed and sustainably certified, a testament to his love for the nature that surrounds his vineyards and his dedication to manual work.
Leithaberg soil is unique. In St. Georgen, Leithakalk dominates the landscape and creates perfect conditions for elegant, structured, precise wines. Schist is also found on the Leithaberg, giving its wines smoky and mineral nuances. While the warm Pannonian climate is felt here, St. Georgen is characterized by cooling winds from the forests. St. Georgner has that cool-climate touch; as some have put it, it's the "fridge of the Leithaberg."
